Check the agent before you hand over a shipment.
Clearing goods through Pakistan Customs on somebody else’s behalf requires a licence. This is the register of 1967 licensed agents at Karachi, with the licence number against each name, so you can check the firm you are about to trust with a container. Yes, our competitors are on it. So are we.
What the licence number means
An agent files the Goods Declaration under your name. The law requires that person to be licensed and to hold your written authority, and it does not remove your liability for what the declaration says. That is the whole reason it is worth knowing whether the firm quoting you actually holds a licence.
The number you want is the CHAL number. It identifies the licensed agency, it does not change, and any agent will give you theirs without hesitating. An agent who will not, or who says the number belongs to somebody they work through, is not the person who will be answering for your file.
This list is the Karachi Customs Agents Association’s membership. An agent licensed at another station will not be on it, so an absence here is a reason to ask rather than a verdict.

Our own licence
Licence No. 22/87, and CHAL 2192.
Rao Muhammad Iqbal Khan and Rao Javaid Iqbal Khan were issued licence number 22/87 in 1987, which made them the twenty-second customs agent licensed in the country that year. The Karachi licence followed in 1992. Both are still the family’s.
