Shafiq Traders has been run by the same family since 1987, and we are now building it into a larger company. That means people well outside the traditional clearing roles: software and data, finance, legal, sales and client service, alongside the documentation and port work the firm has always done.
Where we hire
The kinds of people we need.
Customs documentation
Reading the invoice and the packing list, working out the classification and the valuation, and having the declaration ready before the vessel arrives.
Port operations
Being at the terminal for the examination, dealing with the appraiser when a query comes up, and following the container through to the gate.
Finance and accounts
Duty and tax calculations, port and terminal charges, client billing, and the reconciliation that goes back with every file.
Software and data
Building the systems that hold the filing, the client records and the reporting, so that a firm of this age is not run out of spreadsheets.
Legal and compliance
Classification disputes, valuation appeals, licensing, and keeping the firm on the right side of the rules it works under.
Sales and client service
Bringing in importers who ship regularly, and being the person they call when they want to know where their container has got to.
